Looks like there is some potential for small-load power generation from the energy in rain drops. Seems like this would be a good addition to solar panel arrays, increasing their usefulness in our rainy winters.
This idea is definitely in germination stage, but cool nonetheless.

Hey, Matt, if you want rainpower, move to Forks, WA. The downside: 160 inches of rain a year. Of course, there's always the upside: the last vigorous wild steelhead runs in he lover 48, and enough rivers that something is almost always fishable.
Oh, and the other downside: powerty.
BP: It's from a Rob't. Heinlien novel (I don'trecall which one), and stands for There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch. I'm prolly beating a dead horse, but we live in a closed system. The notion that we can redirect energy from that system on a large scale without side effects is simply broken, IMO.
Where does the energy from falling rain go? I dunno. Someplace, that's for sure.
