Yeah for privatization

Profit motive mixed with government need creates bizarre results. Looks like we're beating China in something after all.

We can thank the war on drugs for cleaning the bottom of the drug food chain (users and endpoint sellers, where all the numbers are) while leaving the top of the chain -- suppliers and the few people with the real money -- alone.

We can thank mandatory sentencing, which removes the humanity from the criminal justice system and forces judges to do the wrong thing.

I wonder: if we look at the ethnic distribution of all these people in jail, how does it stack up against the overall distribution?

One percent of the overall population is in jail, but what percentage of the black population? Of the Hispanic population?

Our government is engaged in a war against the poor, the black, the black, the brown, and the disenfranchised (oops, I just said that).

This is not to say that there are not people in prison who belong there. But not 1% of the population.
